Bio

Growing up in Lancaster, Sam began playing the trumpet at the age of 10. He quickly developed a deep love for the trumpet and Jazz in particular – he would always be listening to his favourite trumpet players, trying to imitate them. At the age of 18, Sam auditioned for and successfully got onto the Jazz course at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance. Currently in his 4th year, Sam has studied under some of the most highly regarded musicians in the UK. Having regular 1-1 lessons with the likes of Tom Walsh, Steve Fishwick, Byron Wallen and Xhosa Cole, combined with weekly big band rehearsals under the tutelage of Winston Rollins, Sam has been able to grow both technically and musically.

Outside of College, Sam plays in a variety of musical settings. As well as leading his own Jazz Quartet and writing his own music, Sam plays for multiple artists. Recently, he has played at venues such as Lafayette and The Oslo Hackney as part of a pop horn section. Sam has also played at various festivals, including Kendal Calling, Green Man Festival and Shambala. Having been part of NYJO (National Youth Jazz Orchestra) for the last 3 years, Sam has had the opportunity to play alongside some of the finest young musicians in the country, performing at venues such as Pizza Express Soho and The Southbank Centre.
